The first week of September, Justin and I loaded up a small trailer with our little collection of personal belongings and we headed out west with a dream in mind! We made the long journey at night because the little sweet pea HATES her carseat and HATES being stuck in her carseat for any length of time, let alone the 12 hours it took us to get to our new hometown. Lucky for us, she slept for about 9 hours of the trip and she wasn't too terrible the remaining time. We arrived in Rocklin, CA which is just northish of Sacramento and after a few days we were able to move into our lovely two bedroom, two bathroom apartment.
We have been busy getting things settled and getting Justin's work figured out, but we did head down to Sacramento one day and drove around. We went to Old Sac, which was really neat, a lot of cute little shops along a boardwalk with the Sacramento River running next to it. Kalea slept through most of it, which is typical, she always misses the good stuff!
Justin has been hard at work to support his family and we love him so much for all of his hard work and dedication, he is such an amazing husband and father and Kalea and I are so lucky to have him. He is working on getting set up to sell Medicare Supplement Insurance with his dad and he also works at an Auto Auction on Tuesdays. I am loving being a stay at home mom! Kalea and I do everything together, including making dinner and baking cookies for dad, going on long walks to explore our new area, cleaning and mostly playing all day long! She is so stinking cute!
And here is the update on Kalea...she changes every day and it's so amazing to witness her growth. It's so neat to discover the world again as I try to imagine what she thinks when she sees new things. The expressions on her face are priceless when she encounters something she hasn't before. She is really into textures right now, our walls are textured and she loves to run her hands along them, she loves to feel the different textures of carpet and blankets and rugs and they fascinate her!
As of today, Kalea is just one week shy of being 5 months old and she is growing up way too fast! She started rolling over from back to tummy before she was 4 months and a few weeks later she picked up on rolling from tummy to back. She is trying so so so hard to crawl and she is starting to get the hang of it, she just needs a little bit more coordination :) We went to the doctor when she was 3 1/2 months instead of the usual 4 months because of the move and at that appointment she was 13 pounds and 1 ounce and 23 inches long. She is growing consistently and staying right in the 50th percentile for weight and the 30th for height and she is a healthy and happy baby. Right now I would guess her to be around 15 or 16 pounds.
We get stopped EVERYWHERE we go by people who tell us what a beautiful daughter we have (as if we don't already know that). Everybody loves her big blue eyes and she always has a smile ready for anyone who tells her how cute she is. And she smiles with her whole body...her shoulders shrug and she kicks and wiggles around...it's adorable and I really wish I could get her to smile when the camera is out.
Those eyes just make my heart melt!
Kalea is getting better control of her hands and she likes to be a big girl and hold her own bottle. She is also teething and will chew on anything (and everything) that is within her reach. We are reaching that stage where we have to be more careful and watchful...the other day I was holding her and doing something in the kitchen and before I knew it she had grabbed a receipt and chewed it to pieces...crazy girl!
Kalea is absolutely ready to start eating solid foods. She likes to sit with us a the dinner table and tries to eat things from our plate. If I'm holding her and eating something she'll dive for the food and try to eat it. We've been working on eating rice cereal from a spoon and she is slowly starting to get the hang of it...or maybe she likes to have food smeared all over her face. We have also tried sweet potatoes (which she loves) and applesauce (which she wasn't too sure about, maybe it's the texture?)
And Kalea is also doing a great job of sitting up by herself! She's still pretty unstable and if she leans too far to one side she will face plant, but she is getting better everyday. She is such a strong and awesome little girl and she does so good. I can't believe she is growing up so fast, it breaks my heart, but we are having so much fun together and we are so happy to be here in California! We look forward to many grand adventures (as soon as we have some extra money to play with)!
